Bengaluru: An arrest warrant has been issued for former cricketer Robin Uthappa in connection with a case involving the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO). The EPFO, which operates under India’s Ministry of Labour and Employment, has formally requested the Bengaluru police to assist in carrying out the arrest.
According to the Regional PF Commissioner, K.R. Puram Shadakshara Gopala Reddy, Uthappa, as the director of Centaurus Lifestyle Brands Pvt Ltd, has failed to pay damages totaling ₹23.36 lakh as mandated by Sections 7A, 14B, and 7Q of the Employees’ Provident Funds and Miscellaneous Provisions Act of 1952.
The commissioner expressed that the EPFO’s inability to collect these dues hinders the settlement of provident fund accounts for low-wage workers who rely on these contributions for their retirement and other needs. He requested the police to execute the arrest warrant and ensure Uthappa is brought before him by December 27 for further action.
When police attempted to locate Uthappa at his residence to execute the warrant, they found him absent.
