Jammu: A tragic incident occurred in Doda district, Jammu and Kashmir, where a woman lost her life and two others went missing after their car plunged into the Chenab River. The accident happened early Saturday when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle while crossing the Shiva Bridge. The group was traveling from Chariya village to Jammu city at the time.
Following the accident, rescue teams were deployed, and the woman’s body was recovered from the river. However, the two missing individuals are feared to have been swept away by the current, and efforts to locate them are ongoing.
The hilly regions of Doda, Kishtwar, Rajouri, and Poonch are known for treacherous roads, which often lead to fatal accidents due to reckless driving and vehicle overloading. In response to recent incidents, including the deaths of two teenagers in Srinagar due to reckless driving, J&K traffic police have intensified their campaign against underage driving and operating vehicles without a proper license. Over 3,000 vehicles have been seized in Srinagar for these violations. The Traffic Department has urged parents and community members to take responsibility and prevent minors from driving, as it poses risks not only to their lives but also to others on the road. The Regional Transport Officer has advised the traffic police to enforce penalties under Section 199A of the Motor Vehicles Act, which holds parents accountable for their children’s unauthorized driving.
