Jalandhar: In a major breakthrough under the Punjab Government’s anti-drug campaign “Yudh Nashian Virudh”, the Commissionerate Police Jalandhar, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Dhanpreet Kaur, has successfully dismantled a major drug smuggling network.
Three accused have been apprehended, and a total of 13.1 kg heroin, 5 illegal .32 bore pistols, 12 live cartridges, 3 magazines, 3 luxury vehicles, and Rs. 22,000 in drug money have been recovered.
Sharing details of the operation, CP Jalandhar recalled that during a press briefing held on May 25, 2025, she had disclosed the arrest of two key accused—
• Shivam Sodhi alias Shiva, son of Varinder Sodhi, resident of Simran Enclave near Lamma Pind Chowk, was arrested on May 20, 2025
• Barinder Singh alias Babbu, son of Davinder Singh, resident of Amar Nagar, Jalandhar, was arrested on May 22, 2025
From their possession, the police recovered a total of 13 kg heroin, 3 luxury cars, 2 illegal pistols (32 Bore), 6 live cartridges and Rs. 22,000 in drug proceeds. An FIR No. 122 dated 20.05.2025, under Sections 21-C, 27-A, 61, 85 of the NDPS Act and 25(1) B Arms Act was registered at Police Station Division No. 8, Jalandhar.
Based on sustained interrogation during their remand, the involvement of a third accomplice came to light, leading to the arrest of Sukhjit Singh alias Sukha, son of Lakhvir Singh, resident of Bishamberpura, PS Chativind, Amritsar, on June 23, 2025. Upon his arrest, the police recovered an additional 100 grams of heroin, 3 illegal .32 bore pistols, and 6 live cartridges. It was also revealed that Sukhjit Singh alias Sukha has a prior criminal case registered against him.
Investigations into the wider network and financial links of the accused are ongoing. Jalandhar Police have assured that all individuals connected to this racket will be brought to justice. This successful operation marks another milestone in the Commissionerate Police Jalandhar’s relentless campaign against drugs and crime in the region.
