Mumbai: The renowned tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain passed away on December 15, leaving a significant void in India’s music scene. His exceptional talent and humility touched countless lives, making his loss feel deeply personal for many.
Prominent figures from the film industry, including Kamal Haasan, Akshay Kumar, A. R. Rahman, Mohanlal, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Hansal Mehta, expressed their condolences following his passing.
Bollywood star Akshay Kumar shared a heartfelt post on social media, stating, “Very pained to know about the sad demise of Ustad Zakir Hussain Sahab. He was truly a treasure for our country’s musical heritage. Om Shanti.”
Veteran actor Kamal Haasan shared an old photo of himself with Zakir Hussain and reflected, “Zakir Bhai! He left too soon. Yet we are grateful for the times he gave us and what he left behind in the form of his art. Goodbye and thank you.”
Oscar-winning composer A. R. Rahman described Zakir as an inspiration and shared his regret over not collaborating with him recently. He wrote, “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. Zakir Bhai was an inspiration, a towering personality who elevated the tabla to global acclaim. His loss is immeasurable for all of us. I regret not being able to collaborate with him as much as we did decades ago. You shall be truly missed. May his family and countless students find strength in this immense loss.”
Mohanlal noted the irreplaceable void Zakir’s passing leaves in the music world, stating, “His rhythms united hearts across borders. My deepest condolences to his family and admirers.”
Kareena Kapoor Khan honored Zakir with a touching image featuring herself, him, and her father, Randhir Kapoor, writing, “Maestro forever.”
