Chandigarh: Punjab Police’s Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), in a joint operation with Mohali Police, foiled a major gangster plot on Wednesday with the arrest of two operatives linked to foreign-based gangster Goldy Dhillon of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang following an exchange of fire on the Ambala–Dera Bassi highway, Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said here.
Shootout and Arrests
Those arrested have been identified as Sharanjit Singh, a resident of Mohali, and Aman Kumar of Khijargarh village in Zirakpur. Police teams have recovered two .32 bore pistols and 10 live cartridges from their possession.
DGP Yadav said preliminary investigation revealed that the arrested duo were involved in a firing incident in Rajpura last month, and had been tasked by Goldy Dhillon to target a businessman in Punjab.
Gangster Linked to Canadian Murder
Additional Director General of Police (AGTF) Promod Ban said foreign-based gangster Goldy Dhillon was also the mastermind behind the daylight killing of an Indian-origin industrialist in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada, in October.
Deputy Inspector General (AGTF) Gurmeet Singh Chauhan added that both arrested have criminal backgrounds, with two FIRs related to arms offences already registered against Aman Kumar.
Swift Police Action
Senior Superintendent of Police Harmandeep Hans said credible intelligence led the AGTF and Mohali Police, under DSP Bikramjit Brar, to intercept the suspects.
During the operation, the accused opened fire at the police party in an attempt to escape, prompting retaliatory fire in which both sustained bullet injuries before being apprehended.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 25 of the Arms Act in Mohali.
