Punjab & Haryana High Court Hears Plea on ‘Lawrence of Punjab’ Documentary, Says No Objectionable Content Found Yet

Today, a hearing was held in the Punjab and Haryana High Court regarding the documentary ‘Lawrence of Punjab.’ The court said that it has watched the documentary and, apart from the title, found no content in it that could be seriously objected to.

During the hearing, the government lawyer argued that not only the word ‘Lawrence’ but also the word ‘Punjab’ should be removed from the documentary’s name. The court, meanwhile, told the company that made the documentary that it should file a response in court regarding the new title after 2:30 PM.

1. As soon as the hearing began on Monday, the High Court judge said that he had watched the entire documentary and did not find any objectionable content in it. The court commented that if Lawrence Bishnoi’s name is removed from the film, the remaining content is based on newspaper clippings and public information. The court said that if G Entertainment is willing to remove Lawrence’s name from the title of the film, it can be considered.

2. During the hearing, the Advocate General of Punjab was also present in the court. He said that if Lawrence’s name is removed from the film, the word ‘Punjab’ should also be removed, as it tarnishes the image of the state.

3. In this matter, lawyers representing Lawrence Bishnoi also appeared in court. They said that due to the documentary, their client’s image is being tarnished and many cases are still pending in courts, which could be affected by it.

On this, the High Court commented, ‘You yourself are giving interviews, so why are you raising objections now? The content shown in the film is already in the public domain.’

4. During the hearing, it was stated on behalf of G Entertainment that the company is ready to change the name of the film, but it needs a little time. On this, the High Court asked the company to inform the new name by 2:30 PM.
