Threats to Leaders Over ‘Lawrence of Punjab’ Series

After the ban on the Lawrence of Punjab documentary, now DGP Gaurav Yadav, Raja Wading, MPs Sukhjinder Randhawa and Balkaur Singh and Punjab AG have received threats. This threat has been sent from a foreign WhatsApp number. In the message, he has been threatened with death. Everyone has received messages. At the same time, after this message came out, the police have come into action.

1. Raja went to Wading, wrote a letter to the PM

As soon as it is known, a series named Lawrence of Punjab is coming on the OTT platform ZEE5. Which will be released on the 27th. After this, Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Wading sent a legal notice to the OTT platform ZEE5 calling it an ‘insult to Punjabiyat’, after which the Center has banned its release. Meanwhile, wrote a letter to the Prime Minister and filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Punjab-Haryana High Court.

2. Punjab Police wrote a letter to the Central Government

Punjab Police wrote a letter to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, demanding a ban on the series. Special DGP (Cyber Crime) V. Neerja warned that this series glorifies organized crime, which could worsen law and order in the state.

3. Like pouring salt on wounds

Balkaur Singh, father of singer Sidhu Moosewala, said about the series that glorifying gangsters is like “poison” for the youth. He questioned why a series is being made about his son’s killers instead of martyrs or scientists. He described it as pouring salt on the wounds of the victims and demanded an immediate ban.

Randhawa called the series anti-national

Congress MP and former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa strongly opposed the ‘Lawrence of Punjab’ web series, calling it “anti-national” and insulting to Punjab’s heritage. He argued that the series glorifies criminals, which could promote a “gun culture” among youth and have a negative impact on society.

Randhawa had demanded an immediate ban on this from the central and state governments. He also asked the Director General of Police (DGP) of Punjab Police to intervene in this matter. After raising his voice against the series, Randhawa allegedly received threatening messages from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, information about which he has provided to the police administration.
