Jaipur: Panic gripped Amer in Jaipur on Monday after a live mortar shell was found in a village field near a CRPF campus and was later safely neutralised by the Bomb Disposal Squad.

Woman Spots Suspicious Object In Field

The incident came to light at around 10:30 a.m. when a local woman spotted the suspicious object while passing through a field in Thakrala ki Dhani, Ward No. 148. She alerted her family, following which residents informed the police control room.

Amer police and Civil Defence personnel quickly reached the spot and moved people away from the area. After an initial assessment, the Bomb Disposal Squad was called in to examine the object.

Live Mortar Shell Moved To Isolated Area

The device was identified as a mortar shell. Officials secured it and transported it away from the populated area to a secluded location for safe disposal.

The shell was placed inside a deep pit and neutralised at around 2 p.m., following which a loud explosion was heard during the controlled disposal operation.

Police Begin Probe Into Origin Of Shell

Amer Station House Officer Gautam Dotasara confirmed that the live mortar shell had been found among waste in a field in the village.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to determine where the shell came from and how it ended up in the area.

Civil Defence officials said the disposal operation was carried out by a team led by Amit Sharma, with several personnel assisting in the operation.
