LK Advani Admitted to Delhi’s Apollo Hospital With Chest Infection, Condition Stable

New Delhi: Veteran BJP leader and former Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani has been admitted to Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in Delhi with a chest infection. His condition is stable, according to hospital officials.

The 98-year-old leader was brought to the hospital at around 7.30 pm on Friday and admitted to the pulmonary department. He is currently under observation, with a team of doctors monitoring his condition and conducting medical tests.

Advani is receiving treatment at the hospital, and officials have confirmed that his condition remains stable.

    Previous Hospitalisations in Recent Months

This is another hospital admission for the veteran leader in recent months. He was admitted to Apollo Hospital in May this year due to age-related health complications and remained under medical care for a few days before being discharged.

In December 2024, Advani was also admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of Indraprastha Apollo Hospital for medical management and investigations. He was treated under the supervision of a neurologist.

The hospital had reported at the time that his condition was stable. On December 17, 2024, officials said he was gradually improving and was likely to be shifted out of the ICU within the next one to two days.

LK Advani’s Role in BJP’s Growth

Born on November 8, 1927, in Karachi, now in Pakistan, Advani is among the most prominent leaders in the BJP’s history. He played a major role in transforming the party from a relatively small political force into a major national organisation.

As BJP president on several occasions, he helped strengthen the party’s organisational network across the country. His Ram Rath Yatra in 1990 marked a significant turning point in Indian politics and contributed to the BJP’s expanding political influence.

Advani served as India’s Deputy Prime Minister from 2002 to 2004 under the government of then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. During his political career, he also held several key portfolios, including the Home Affairs Ministry.

    Bharat Ratna Awarded in 2024

In recognition of his contribution to public life, Advani was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour, in 2024. He had earlier received the Padma Vibhushan in 2015.

He remains a senior figure in the BJP and an important part of the party’s political history
