Louisiana man who attempted to rape 7-year-old agrees to castration in plea deal

Islamabad, August 21: In a shocking case in the US state of Louisiana, 37-year-old Thomas Alan McCartney has pleaded guilty to attempted rape of a 7-year-old girl. He has agreed to undergo physical and chemical castration (sterilisation) and has also been sentenced to 40 years in prison.

The case is from Vernon Parish, Louisiana, where McCartney pleaded guilty in court on August 18. The charge was filed when a woman caught him red-handed in 2023 while having “unwanted forcible contact” with her 7-year-old daughter.

Vernon Parish District Attorney Terry Lambright confirmed that McCartney had previously been convicted of another rape in 2011.

Lambright said in a statement,

“This is a horrific crime that should never have happened. McCartney is a monstrous individual who is not fit to be housed away from normal society.”

McCartney will now serve his 40-year sentence in the Louisiana Department of Corrections, during which he will also have to undergo a castration procedure.
