Glasgow: Olympic bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain on Saturday created history by becoming only the third Indian boxer after Mary Kom and Vijender Singh to win a medal in every major international tournament after securing a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow.
Lovlina won the silver medal in the women’s 75kg boxing category after losing to Australia’s Emma-Sue Greentree in the final. The Indian boxer went down 4-1 in a closely fought bout but still added another major achievement to her decorated career.
Lovlina Falls Short in Gold Medal Bout
Lovlina displayed her trademark calmness and technical skills throughout the final but could not overcome Greentree’s aggressive approach and ring control.
According to the judges’ scorecards, the Australian boxer secured a 4-1 split decision victory after edging several competitive rounds. Lovlina remained in the contest throughout the bout and landed several clean punches, but the judges favoured Greentree’s attacking style.
Despite missing out on gold, the silver medal marked another significant achievement for the Assamese boxer.
Long Wait for Commonwealth Games Medal Ends
This was Lovlina’s third appearance at the Commonwealth Games, and the Glasgow silver ended her wait for a medal at the multi-sport event.
She received a direct entry into the semifinals after a bye and reached the final after winning her first bout of the tournament on Thursday.
Her performance in Glasgow once again highlighted her experience and resilience on the international stage.
