Commercial LPG Cylinder Gets Costlier, Jet Fuel Prices Hiked: Check New Rates and Impact

New Delhi: Commercial cooking gas and aviation fuel became costlier from September 1, with oil marketing companies raising the prices of 19-kg commercial LPG cylinders and aviation turbine fuel (ATF) for domestic airlines. While the LPG increase is relatively small, the latest ATF hike could add to operating costs for airlines and put some pressure on airfares.

The revisions came into effect on September 1, 2026, as oil companies carried out their monthly fuel price review.

Commercial LPG Cylinder Price Hiked From September 1

The price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder has increased by Rs 9.50 to Rs 11.50, depending on the city.

In Delhi, the price has gone up by Rs 9.50, from Rs 2,738 to Rs 2,747.50 per cylinder. In Mumbai, the rate has increased by Rs 9.50 to Rs 2,701.

The revised prices in other major cities are:

• Delhi: Rs 2,747.50, up Rs 9.50
• Mumbai: Rs 2,701, up Rs 9.50
• Kolkata: Rs 2,884, up Rs 11.50
• Chennai: Rs 2,916.50, up Rs 10.50
• Chandigarh: Rs 2,769.50, up Rs 9.50
• Hyderabad: Rs 2,996, up Rs 11
• Bengaluru: Rs 2,831, up Rs 10

The increase follows two consecutive monthly reductions in commercial LPG prices in July and August. In August, Delhi had seen a reduction of Rs 192 per 19-kg cylinder.

Domestic LPG Cylinder Prices Unchanged

There is relief for household consumers as the price of the 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder has remained unchanged in the September 1 revision.

In Delhi, the domestic cylinder continues to cost Rs 942, while the price is Rs 968 in Kolkata, Rs 941.50 in Mumbai and Rs 957.50 in Chennai.

This means the latest LPG price increase is primarily relevant to commercial users such as restaurants, hotels, dhabas, bakeries, sweet shops and other establishments that rely on 19-kg cylinders.

For businesses using several cylinders every month, even a small per-cylinder increase can raise overall operating expenses. However, the immediate impact on consumers is likely to depend on whether businesses absorb the additional cost or pass it on through higher prices.

Jet Fuel Price Rises 5.46%

Aviation turbine fuel (ATF), commonly known as jet fuel, has also become more expensive for domestic airlines.

The price of ATF has been increased by 5.46 per cent, or Rs 6.28 per litre, taking the rate in Delhi from around Rs 115 to Rs 121.28 per litre, according to sources cited in the latest reports. This is the second consecutive monthly increase in jet fuel prices.

The increase comes at a time when airlines are already dealing with elevated fuel costs and volatility in international energy markets.

Fuel is one of the biggest operating expenses for airlines. Therefore, a sustained increase in ATF prices can raise airline operating costs and may eventually put upward pressure on airfares, although the extent of any fare increase will depend on airlines, demand, competition and other operating costs.

Will Flight Tickets Become More Expensive?

The ATF hike does not automatically mean an immediate increase in airfares.

Airlines consider several factors when setting ticket prices, including fuel costs, demand, capacity, airport charges, competition and other operating expenses.

However, if jet fuel prices continue to rise, airlines could face greater cost pressure. This may increase the likelihood of higher fares, particularly on routes where fuel represents a significant share of total operating costs.

The government had earlier introduced an ATF price stabilisation mechanism with budgetary support of up to Rs 10,000 crore for scheduled Indian airlines amid exceptional fuel-price volatility caused by the West Asia crisis. The mechanism was aimed at providing greater stability and predictability in ATF prices.

What Gets Costlier From September 1?

The September revision therefore has a different impact on households and businesses.

Commercial LPG: Costlier by Rs 9.50-Rs 11.50 per 19-kg cylinder, depending on the city.

Domestic LPG: No change in the 14.2-kg household cylinder price.

ATF: Up 5.46 per cent, with Delhi’s rate rising to Rs 121.28 per litre for domestic airlines.

Petrol and diesel: No nationwide price hike was announced on September 1.

The LPG increase is likely to be felt mainly by commercial establishments, while the ATF hike could add to the cost pressures faced by airlines and potentially influence airfares if higher fuel costs persist.
