LPG crisis feared in Haryana: Commercial cylinder supplies halted, hotels and restaurants in trouble

The complete halt in the supply of commercial LPG cylinders in Haryana has deepened the crisis for hotels, restaurants, dhabas, and other commercial establishments. The supply of commercial cylinders has been halted on the instructions of the central government to prioritize domestic consumers, a situation exacerbated by the ongoing war in West Asia (the Iran-Israel-US conflict) and the disruption in the Strait of Hormuz, which has affected global LPG supplies.

There is not a significant shortage of domestic gas in Sirsa, but the halt in commercial cylinders has affected hotels, PGs, food courts, and restaurants. Sweet shops have restarted their diesel-powered furnaces after a year. Street vendors have been particularly affected. DFSC Harvinder Singh stated that strict action will be taken against those found using domestic cylinders for commercial purposes, and special teams have been formed to prevent black marketing.

The supply of commercial cylinders has been completely halted in Fatehabad. Consumers in Ratia created a ruckus outside a gas agency where cylinders were not available despite bookings. Hotel and restaurant operators are resorting to diesel furnaces. Due to the closure of online bookings, people are reaching out to agencies for manual bookings. ADC Anurag Dhaliya held a meeting with agency operators. Monitoring committees are being formed to prevent black marketing.

Only domestic cylinders are available in Charkhi Dadri. Hotels, dhabas, hostels, and PGs are facing increased difficulties. People are increasingly using electric stoves, heaters, and furnaces. Due to the increased commercial use of domestic cylinders, the Food and Civil Supplies Department has formed teams in each district, which have been conducting a campaign since March 11th. No cases of black marketing have been reported yet.

The closure of commercial gas in Bhiwani has created a fuel crisis in hotels and restaurants. Around 550 hotels and restaurants in Bhiwani city are affected. Some larger hotels have installed diesel furnaces. Stock monitoring at gas agencies has been increased due to the fear of black marketing.

Commercial cylinder bookings have been suspended at all 34 gas agencies in Hisar. Online booking of domestic cylinders has been affected for two days due to a site problem. People are going to agencies to make manual bookings. Hotels and dhabas are using domestic cylinders. DFSC held a meeting with agency operators and gave instructions to keep the supply smooth and keep an eye on black marketing. Black marketing has already started; cylinders used to be available for Rs 1000-1100, now they are available for Rs 1400-1500.
