Lucknow: Bhimrao Ambedkar University Student Dies of Food Poisoning! Vice-Chancellor Gheraoed After Midnight

Late Tuesday night, students affiliated with the SFI organization staged a protest at the capital-based Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU). They alleged that the health of a female student, Anamika, deteriorated after consuming contaminated mess food, and she subsequently passed away in her hometown, Varanasi. She was a student of Integrated Basic Sciences and resided at the Yashodhara Girls’ Hostel.

Sapan, an SFI student member, stated that Anamika had fallen ill with food poisoning a few days earlier. Despite receiving medication from the clinic located within the university campus, her condition continued to worsen. Upon being informed, her family members took her home three or four days ago; when her condition turned critical there, she was admitted to a hospital.

News of the incident sparked outrage among student organizations. Hundreds of students gathered outside the residence of Vice-Chancellor Dr. Rajkumar Mittal and continued raising slogans until late into the night. The students surrounded the Vice-Chancellor’s residence to register their protest against the administration.

The atmosphere on campus remained tense throughout the night. When contacted late at night for details regarding the matter, BBAU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rajkumar Mittal stated over the phone that he was currently out of the city. He added that he would be able to comment on the issue only after reaching Lucknow.

Entry of Outsiders Restricted

In light of the unrest, the BBAU administration has tightened security measures. Late at night, a notice was issued by the Proctor, Prof. Ramchandra, directing that security arrangements be strengthened. According to the notice, entry through Gates No. 2 and 3 after 10:30 PM will be granted only upon the production of a valid hard-copy ID card. No individual will be permitted to enter the campus without proper identification. Furthermore, a complete ban has been imposed on the entry of non-students, alumni, and outsiders.
