Lucknow High Court orders FIR, probe into British citizenship case against Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi: The Allahabad High Court on Friday ordered the registration of an FIR against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi. The petition alleged that he also holds British citizenship.

The Lucknow bench ordered the Kotwali police station in Rae Bareli to register an FIR in this matter.

Petition filed by BJP worker
The petition was filed by S. Vignesh Shishir, a BJP worker from Karnataka. He had previously challenged the order of the Special MP/MLA Court, which rejected the demand for registration of an FIR.

The petitioner claimed that he possessed documents and emails related to the UK government that indicate Rahul Gandhi is a British citizen.

Called the decision ‘historic’
After the decision, Shishir called it “historic” and a “milestone.” He stated that this decision is important for national security and public interest.

He also demanded that the investigation be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation and that his security be enhanced.

Constitutional Provisions on Dual Citizenship
According to the Indian Constitution, dual citizenship is not permitted in the country, so this case is considered legally significant.
