Lucknow Traders Protest Road Cut Closure, FIR Against 25

Lucknow, April 11: The police have taken strict action regarding a protest and road blockade staged in the Sarojini Nagar police station area of Lucknow specifically on the main road leading to Chillawan village off Kanpur Road in opposition to the closure of an illegal road cut. Sub-Inspector Avneesh Verma of the Sarojini Nagar police station has registered a case in this regard against more than two dozen individuals, including three named accused.
Traders and Locals Staged a Protest
Angered by this action, locals joined by traders blocked the highway around 6:00 PM on the same day, causing severe disruption to traffic flow. Upon receiving this information, Sub-Inspector Avneesh Verma arrived at the scene with a police team and with the assistance of Traffic Police personnel, attempted to reason with and pacify the crowd.
Despite the police’s attempts to reason with them, the protesters remained adamant and continued to block the road while chanting slogans. The police stated that M.C. Tiwari, Rakesh (a grocery store owner) and Brijendra Sharma alias Pappu along with 20 to 25 other unidentified individuals, collectively blocked the road, thereby disrupting traffic flow.
Police Had Closed the Road to Streamline Traffic
Given the gravity of the situation, Sub-Inspector Avneesh Verma alerted his superiors, and additional police reinforcements were summoned. Subsequently, the situation was brought under control. According to the police, frequent road accidents occurred due to the aforementioned unauthorized road opening.
Traffic management was also constantly disrupted as a result. It was for this very reason that the decision to close it was taken. Currently, a formal complaint has been registered against the accused, and the police are pursuing further legal action in the matter.
