Ludhiana: Armed Men Storm Ladowal Toll Plaza, NHAI Seeks FIR

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has sought immediate police action and registration of an FIR after alleged illegal toll collection and intimidation at the Ladowal Toll Plaza near Ludhiana.

In a letter addressed to the Ludhiana Commissioner of Police, NHAI’s Project Implementation Unit stated that around 3.15 pm on Tuesday, a group led by one person who was, accompanied by 10-15 associates allegedly armed with baseball bats, hockey sticks and batons, forcibly entered the toll plaza premises.

According to the complaint submitted by toll collection agency M/s Ranchor Infra Developers Pvt Ltd, the group allegedly attempted unauthorized collection of toll charges from buses by positioning their men alongside toll booth staff. When employees resisted, they were allegedly threatened and intimidated, creating panic and disrupting toll operations.

The agency further informed NHAI that a complaint had already been lodged on Dial 112 under registered ID No. PB20260506000779, but alleged that no effective action had been taken so far. It also claimed that the accused was misusing the name of the district administration to exert pressure and continue the activities.

NHAI warned that such incidents pose a serious threat to the safety of toll plaza staff, disrupt traffic operations and could lead to substantial revenue leakage. The authority said the unlawful acts were also damaging the public image and credibility of NHAI.

DGM (Tech)-cum-Project Director Priyanka Meena urged the police and district administration to take strict legal and administrative action to prevent recurrence of such incidents and ensure smooth functioning of the toll plaza.
