ASI arrested red-handed while taking bribe in Ludhiana

In a major action, the Vigilance Bureau in Ludhiana arrested ASI Janak Raj, in-charge of Police Post Kailash under Police Station Division No. 8, red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹15,000.

According to sources, the accused from whom the police officer accepted the bribe is also named in an alleged fraud case involving ₹4.57 crore.

A case of fraud was registered against Amit Kumar Pabby, a resident of New Kundanpuri, on January 5 under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code. Complainant Gaurav Kumar (Amit’s brother) alleged in his complaint to the Vigilance Bureau that ASI Janak Raj demanded ₹15,000, promising not to take his brother to court on police remand.

After receiving the complaint, the Vigilance Bureau laid a trap and sent Gaurav with ₹15,000. As soon as the ASI accepted the bribe, the team apprehended him on the spot.

The accused will appear in court today.

SSP Vigilance Varinder Brar confirmed the arrest and said that the accused ASI will be presented in court today (Wednesday). Further investigation is ongoing.

It is worth noting that four policemen from the Kailash police post have previously been suspended for allegedly mistreating a cab driver in custody. These frequent incidents are raising questions about the police department’s functioning.
