2 Arrested With 17 Quintals of Beef at Ludhiana’s Ladowal Toll Plaza

Ludhiana: A major alleged cow-smuggling network was busted at Ladhowal Toll Plaza after police recovered around 17 quintals of beef from a Mahindra Jeep headed toward Uttar Pradesh. Two accused were arrested on the spot, while an FIR has been registered against six individuals.

The operation was carried out following a tip-off received by Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Patiala, who informed police that a large quantity of beef was being transported from Amritsar to Uttar Pradesh. Acting on the information, Gurpreet Singh and his associate Darshan Singh coordinated with the police and set up a naka at the toll plaza.

Jeep Intercepted During Checking

Police intercepted the Mahindra Jeep bearing registration number UP-11-CT-0682 as soon as it reached the toll plaza. During the search, officials allegedly recovered nearly 17 quintals of beef packed inside the vehicle.

The two occupants of the vehicle, identified as Vicky Kumar and Hussain, were immediately detained and handed over to the police team for further investigation.

Accused Reveal Alleged Smuggling Network

During interrogation, the arrested accused allegedly told investigators that the meat consignment had been loaded in Amritsar by Suhel and Sameer. Police said the consignment was meant to be delivered to Mohammad Tasir and Kesar in the Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh.

Following the revelations, police registered a case against six accused: Vicky Kumar, Hussain, Mohammad Tasir, Kesar, Suhel and Sameer.

Case Registered Under Multiple Sections

The case is being investigated by ASI Major Singh at Ladhowal Police Station. Police have registered charges under Sections 299, 325 and 111(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Section 8 of the Punjab Prohibition of Cow Slaughter Act and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

Police officials said efforts are underway to arrest the remaining accused and uncover the larger network allegedly involved in cow slaughter and smuggling operations between Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.
