Ludhiana: A video has surfaced showing on-duty traffic police personnel openly engaging in bribery at Ludhiana’s busiest intersection the Jalandhar Bypass Chowk. This video has completely shattered the credibility of the Punjab Police’s operational standards and the government’s claims of a “zero-tolerance” policy against corruption.

The video clearly depicts a traffic police assistant sub-inspector (ASI) at a major junction like the Jalandhar Bypass Chowk, standing right in the middle of the road, sipping tea while haggling with a motorist. What is truly shocking is that, instead of accepting cash, the officer instructed the motorist to transfer the bribe money digitally via a scanner (Google Pay/Paytm) to the account of a nearby street vendor, thereby ensuring that no physical evidence remained.

₹500 Demanded, ₹300 Agreed Upon

The video begins near the Jalandhar Bypass Chowk, where a traffic police officer wearing a blue turban is seen standing by the roadside. He stops a motorist and intimidates him with threats of legal action. Panicked, the motorist immediately agrees to pay a bribe to settle the matter quietly.

A “Solid Arrangement” Right at the Junction

The motorist first approaches a nearby shopkeeper and says, “Brother, I need to transfer ₹500 to this scanner.” Due to a technical glitch in his account, the shopkeeper hesitates to accept the payment. Meanwhile, the motorist returns to the ASI standing at the junction and reports, “Sir, I’ve arranged for the full amount (₹500); there won’t be any issues now.”

Holding a cup of tea in his hand amidst the bypass traffic, the officer displaying an air of authority replies, “Just transfer ₹300. Okay?” Breathing a sigh of relief, the motorist responds, “Thank you, sir.”
