40 kg fake Desi Ghee made from powdered milk seized in Ludhiana; One arrested

Ludhiana: Fake ghee was found dumped in a house in Sham Nagar, Ludhiana, Punjab. A team from the health department conducted a raid after receiving a tip-off, where they found a large quantity of fake ghee, which is supplied to shops.

40 kg of fake ghee recovered

The team, with the help of the police, raided the house and recovered 40 kilograms of counterfeit ghee, dry powdered milk, and cream. This ghee and other items were to be supplied to the city in anticipation of the festive season. The same house raided by the health department today was also raided in 2017.

Accused was declared a fugitive in 2023

Furthermore, in 2020, officials also seized counterfeit goods during a raid. Five years later, in 2025, a raid was conducted, and the department again found counterfeit ghee. The accused was declared a fugitive by the police in 2023, leading to his arrest today.

Giving information, Civil Surgeon Dr. Ramandeep Kaur said that people are now hiding counterfeit goods in their homes, but now raids will be conducted in people’s homes as well. This fake desi ghee was being made using dried milk and refined milk.

One accused arrested

He urged people to immediately inform the health department if they find adulterated food items. The department has now taken samples of milk, ghee, and cream and arrested the owner of the house.
