Massive Fire Breaks Out at Clothing Showrooms in Ludhiana’s Ghumar Mandi, Goods Worth Lakhs Destroyed

Ludhiana: Panic gripped Ludhiana’s posh Ghumar Mandi market late last night when a massive fire broke out at two well-known clothing showrooms. Balbir Silk Sarees and Ashok Emporium suffered significant damage. Ten fire engines brought the fire under control after two and a half hours of intense effort, but by then, valuable clothing worth lakhs had been reduced to ashes.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire first started in one shop and within no time it engulfed the second shop. The fire was so fierce that it engulfed the entire two-storey building and the second shop in no time. The fire started from the ground floor and spread to the upper floors.

Expensive Sarees and Lehengas Destroyed

The fire reportedly started on the ground floor and rapidly spread to the upper floors. Large quantities of expensive lehengas, sarees and readymade garments stored inside the shops were completely destroyed.

Thick smoke and flames soon filled the busy market area, triggering panic among shopkeepers and residents nearby.

Welding Sparks Suspected as Possible Cause

Local residents alleged that welding work had been taking place outside the shop shortly before the fire broke out.

It is suspected that sparks from the welding work may have ignited the clothing, causing the blaze. However, officials have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the fire.

Police reached the spot soon after the incident, controlled the crowd and began an investigation.

Ten Fire Engines Battle Blaze for Over Two Hours

Officials from the fire department said they received the first call about the fire around 9:55 pm.

Initially, two fire engines were dispatched to the spot. As the flames intensified, additional fire brigade vehicles were rushed to the scene.

With the help of 10 fire engines, firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control after around two and a half hours of intense efforts.

Investigation Underway

Authorities said the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation. Officials will also assess the extent of financial losses suffered by the affected shop owners.
