Man Posing as Police Officer Allegedly Rapes Minor in Ludhiana, Arrested Under POCSO

Ludhiana: A man allegedly posing as a police officer was arrested for the rape of a 17-year-old girl in Punjab’s Ludhiana district, police said. The incident reportedly took place on July 7, following which the victim approached the police and lodged a complaint.

According to the victim’s statement, the accused, identified as Balwinder Singh, a resident of Uttam Vihar, Malewal in Ludhiana, introduced himself as a police official. He allegedly intimidated the minor and forcibly made her sit on his motorcycle before taking her to a secluded location, where he sexually assaulted her.

Accused Allegedly Impersonated Police Officer

The victim told police that the accused identified himself as a police official before coercing her onto his motorcycle. He then allegedly took her to an isolated area, where he sexually assaulted her. Following the complaint, Ludhiana Police launched an investigation and arrested the accused.

FIR Registered Under POCSO and BNS

Police have registered an FIR at Division No. 8 Police Station under Section 64 (rape) and Section 319(2) (impersonation/cheating by personation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act have also been invoked due to the victim being a minor.

Police Probe Underway

The investigation is being led by Sub-Inspector (SI) Subhash Chandra. Police are examining whether the accused has any previous criminal record or has committed similar offences by impersonating a police officer. Officials said all aspects of the case are being thoroughly investigated, and further legal action will be taken based on the findings.
