Ludhiana’s Sasrali embankment under threat:14 Villages at Risk; Relief Efforts Intensify

Ludhiana, Sep 5: The flood situation in Punjab is still serious, although there is no alert regarding rain for the next 5 days. This is a big relief news for the state. Meanwhile, relief and rescue operations have intensified. The work of filling the Dhussi dam broken by the Ravi river in Ramdas, Amritsar is going on, while the water level has started decreasing at many places from Pathankot to Tarn Taran.

The dam of Sutlej river near Sasrali village of Ludhiana district has become very weak. There is pressure of strong flow on the dam, due to which there is a threat of flood in 14 villages. The administration has issued an alert and appealed to the people to go to safe places. On the other hand, the water of Sutlej has reached the dam in Machhiwara area also.

The water level of Bhakra Dam is now just one foot below the danger mark. Due to the continuous increase in the inflow of water, all the four flood gates have been opened by 10-10 feet. Its effect can be seen up to Rupnagar, Ludhiana and Harike Headwork.

The cabinet meeting of the Punjab government will be held today at the CM residence. Important decisions can be taken in the meeting to help the flood affected people. At the same time, NDRF teams have been deployed in Patiala in view of the water level of the Ghaggar river. The administration has appealed to the citizens not to pay attention to rumors and trust only official information.

In village Mander Kalan of Rupnagar district, water is moving towards the village. The situation has become serious due to the breaking of the security wall built here. Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said that government workers and Pokelin machines have been working continuously for many days.

Minister Bains said that the help of the youth is necessary, the more people join, the sooner the situation can be brought under control. He said that I myself was present on the spot for about one and a half hours and now I am going to the Lakshmi Narayan temple located in Sri Anandpur Sahib, where the temple is also in danger.
