Sutlej water level decreased in Ludhiana: Cracks in Dhussi bandh, repair work underway

Although the water level of the Sutlej river near Sasrali Colony and Garhi Fazal village in Ludhiana has decreased a bit, the Dhussi dam of Garhi Fazal is becoming weak and damaged. Cracks and damage were seen in some parts of the dam on Sunday.

Officials have also confirmed that the stones and crates installed for the protection of the dam have been affected, which can increase the risk of erosion if not repaired in time. Seeing this situation, local villagers and farmers have demanded immediate action from the administration.

Farmer Amrik Singh says that the water level has definitely decreased, but the danger still remains, because the dam is not strong. It has developed cracks and some parts have broken. If it rains again or the water level of the river suddenly increases, the risk of the dam breaking will increase further.

Emergency teams are assessing the situation
Drainage department officials said that the stones installed for the protection of the Dhussi dam of Garhi Fazal have slipped due to the strong water current. Although emergency teams have reached the spot and assessed the situation, the complete repair has not been completed yet.

A senior official said that due to sudden increase in the water level of Sutlej river last week, pressure increased on the dam and it suffered minor damage, which has been reported to the higher officials. At present, the department is carrying out repair work with new stones and sand bags.

According to the officials, the situation was serious, but the dam was supported by installing additional crates in time. Hundreds of laborers and local youth are engaged in this work and at present the situation is under control.
