Amritsar: Influencer Mad Sandhu was shot dead in Amritsar on Saturday after two unidentified assailants riding a motorcycle allegedly opened fire at him on Loharka Road around 6 p.m.
According to the available information, the assailants fired four shots at Sandhu in broad daylight. He was rushed towards a private hospital in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries on the way.
A video of the incident has surfaced on social media, showing Sandhu lying injured on the road. His associates can be seen lifting him from the spot. Spent bullet casings were also found scattered on the road.
Police reached the scene after receiving information about the shooting. DCP Prabhjot Singh said that two spent casings were recovered from the spot and that an investigation team has been constituted to probe the incident.
Sandhu Posted His Last Reel Hours Before Shooting
Sandhu had posted his last Instagram reel at around 5 p.m. on Saturday, nearly an hour before the shooting.
In the reel, he sang: “I want a ‘good boy’ to marry; what would I do with a ‘Jatta’ badmash (bad boy)?”
The circumstances surrounding the shooting and the motive behind the attack have not yet been established.
Earlier Dispute With Nihang Jathedar
Around three months ago, Sandhu had reportedly been involved in a dispute with Nihang Jathedar Manpreet Singh Khalsa.
At the time, the Nihang side had raised objections to Sandhu’s social media activities, attire and some of his earlier videos. Sandhu was reportedly warned to distance himself from content that was alleged to have a negative impact on Punjab’s culture and youth.
During the controversy, Sandhu had said that he had changed his ways and stopped repeating his past mistakes. He had also claimed that unnecessary controversy was being created by resharing some of his old videos on social media.
Police are investigating the shooting, including the circumstances surrounding the attack and the identity and motive of the assailants. Further details are awaited.
