Madhya Pradesh: Explosion at Firecracker Factory in Dewas; 8 feared Dead, Over 20 Injured

An explosion occurred at a firecracker factory in the Tonk Kalan area of ​​Dewas, Madhya Pradesh. Preliminary reports suggest that 8 to 10 people have died in the incident. The District Collector has confirmed the deaths of two individuals, while more than a dozen people have sustained injuries. The death toll is likely to rise. Meanwhile, the explosion at the firecracker factory has caused panic and chaos throughout the area.

The incident is reported to have taken place on Maksi Road in Dewas, where the firecracker factory was situated near Tonkkala village. Work was proceeding as usual on Thursday morning, just like any other day, with several laborers working inside the facility.

However, a sudden blast rocked the premises. Reports indicate that the explosion occurred around 11:30 AM on Thursday morning. The death toll and the number of injured persons involved in the incident could potentially rise. Upon receiving information about the incident, fire brigade units rushed to the scene and immediately began efforts to extinguish the blaze. Additionally, teams from the police and the local administration have arrived at the site and are actively engaged in relief and rescue operations.

The injured referred to Indore

As of now, reports indicate that more than 20 people have sustained injuries in the incident. Those in critical condition have been referred to Indore for advanced medical treatment. It is reported that an investigation is underway at the incident site. Definitive and precise details regarding the exact number of casualties and injuries have not yet been officially confirmed.

The blast was so powerful that fragments of bodies were flung up to 20 to 25 feet away. Several people suffered severe burns in the accident, and three women are still reported missing. More than 200 women were employed at the factory. The local administration and a relief team have rushed to the scene.

Following the incident, villagers surrounded the Commissioner and alleged that no action had been taken previously against the illegal factory. It is reported that approximately 400 to 500 people work at the facility.
