Maharashtra: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday launched a sweeping modernisation drive for Pune Police, inaugurating an AI-enabled integrated command and control centre, new surveillance systems, and laying the foundation for multiple police stations.
Speaking at the Shivajinagar Police Headquarters, Fadnavis announced approval for five new police stations at Lohgaon, Laxminagar, Narhe, Manjri, and Yewalewadi, alongside recruitment of 1,000 additional personnel and two new Deputy Commissioners of Police. “This is the first major structural reform of the police force in 60 years,” he said, highlighting specialised units for narcotics and forensics.
The newly launched ‘Drishti’ Integrated Command and Control Centre will operate 2,800 CCTV cameras with AI-based crime and traffic monitoring, public address systems, automated fault alerts, and mobile command vans equipped with drones. Plans for a satellite-powered Integrated Traffic Management System will optimise traffic flow across Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and PMRDA regions.
Fadnavis also inaugurated the Chandan Nagar Police Station, laid foundations for others, and lauded Pune Police for anti-drug efforts, juvenile reform programmes, and swift action in high-profile cases.
