Maharashtra TET Paper Leak: Mastermind Bijendra Gupta Arrested in Bihar After Months-Long Search

Mumbai/Patna: The alleged mastermind behind the Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) paper leak case, Bijendra Gupta, has been arrested by Maharashtra Police from Bihar after remaining absconding for several months.

According to officials, Gupta was traced and arrested following an extensive search operation conducted across multiple locations in Bihar. Another accused allegedly linked to the case was also detained during the operation.

Gupta suspected of links with multiple paper leak cases

Investigators believe that Bijendra Gupta may have connections with several examination paper leak cases reported across the country. Police had been conducting raids at different locations to track him down after he managed to evade arrest for months.

Earlier, Maharashtra Police had arrested several accused in connection with the TET paper leak case, including Gupta’s wife. However, the alleged mastermind remained on the run, leading to an interstate investigation to locate him.

Police to investigate wider paper leak network

After his arrest, Maharashtra Police is expected to bring Gupta to the state on transit remand for further questioning.

Officials are examining his alleged links with other examination paper leak networks to identify the wider syndicate and determine whether he was involved in similar cases elsewhere.

Centre proposes stricter punishment for paper leaks

The arrest comes amid growing concerns over examination paper leaks across the country.

The Union Cabinet has approved a draft proposal to strengthen provisions under The Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024.

The proposed amendments suggest stricter punishment for organised paper leaks, including imprisonment of up to 10 years and a fine of up to ₹10 crore.

The move aims to prevent unfair practices in competitive examinations and protect the interests of students.
