Bikram Singh Majithia’s bail hearing adjourned to August 4; New FIR adds to legal troubles

Amritsar, August 1: The bail plea of senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia was heard in Mohali court today. The hearing went on for about 3.5 hours in two phases. Lawyers from both sides presented their arguments. After this, the court has now adjourned the next hearing to August 4. The debate in the last hearing went on for about 4.5 hours.

On the other hand, on July 31, another FIR was registered against Majithia and his supporters for obstructing the work of the Vigilance Bureau in Amritsar. On this, Akali Dal leaders say that the government has not been able to do anything in the earlier cases. In such a situation, efforts are being made to complicate the matter by filing a new case.

Majithia was arrested from Amritsar

Majithia was arrested by the Vigilance Bureau from Amritsar on June 25. He is accused of amassing assets disproportionate to his income. Earlier in 2021, during the tenure of the Congress government, a case was also registered against Majithia under the NDPS Act.

In which statements of 6 people including former DGP Siddharth Chattopadhyay and former ED deputy director have been recorded so far. Raids have been conducted on Majithia’s properties in Punjab, Himachal, Delhi and UP. The government says that it has solid evidence, while Majithia’s lawyer is calling it a politically motivated and baseless case.
