In response, Majithia filed a criminal defamation suit in the Ludhiana court against AAP’s then-National Convener Arvind Kejriwal, along with Sanjay Singh and Ashish Khetan. Majithia argued that his reputation and that of his family had been tarnished solely for the sake of political gain, without any concrete evidence to substantiate the claims.

Kejriwal Apologized, but Sanjay Singh Stood Firm

The most significant twist in this high-profile case occurred in 2018. Facing a barrage of defamation lawsuits, Arvind Kejriwal and Ashish Khetan tendered an unconditional written apology to Majithia outside the court. In their written apology, they acknowledged that the allegations leveled against Majithia were baseless.

Subsequently, the court discharged Kejriwal and Khetan from the case, and Majithia withdrew the proceedings against them. However, leader Sanjay Singh flatly refused to back down from his stance. He declined to apologize to Majithia and decided to vigorously contest the case in court. Since then, this defamation trial against Sanjay Singh has been continuously ongoing in the Ludhiana Court.
