Rajasthan Food Safety Department Seizes 1.5 Lakh Kg of Expired Amul Products Sold With Altered Dates

Jaipur: Rajasthan’s Food Safety Department, in a major operation, destroyed approximately 1.5 lakh kilograms of expired food items. It is alleged that a local distributor company was selling these products in the market by changing the expiry date written on the packets.

Raid following complaint on 181 helpline

The action was taken following a complaint received on the state government’s 181 helpline. According to reports, suspicious activities were reported at the warehouse of M/s Athlete Distributor located in the Kho Nagorian area of ​​Jaipur.

Principal Secretary of the Health Department, Gayatri Rathore, stated that after receiving the complaint, a team from CMHO Jaipur-II raided the warehouse. Approximately 12,000 cartons of expired goods, including noodles, ketchup, mayonnaise, and energy drinks, were recovered during the raid.

According to Food Safety Commissioner T. Shubhamangala, activities at the warehouse were suspicious. Residents reported that the main gate remained closed throughout the day when only 10-12 employees entered.

Use of Chemicals to Erase Expiry Dates

During the inspection, officials also found thinner, acetone, and other chemicals being used to erase expiration dates printed on packages. Evidence of this type of date removal was found on approximately 3,000 cartons.

In addition, officials also found 4,500 new Amul-branded cartons intended to be used to repack expired goods.

Method Learned from YouTube

According to Additional Commissioner Bhagwat Singh, the firm’s operator, Gagan Ahuja, admitted that he learned this technique of changing expiration dates by watching YouTube videos and was selling the old products in the market.

Goods destroyed in four days

Officials stated that the seized expired food items were destroyed in four days. 27 trucks were used to transport them to the dumping yard, and the distributor was charged for the cost.

Officials are still investigating the quantity of these altered products sold in the market.

These products were reportedly manufactured by the Kheda District Milk Producers Cooperative Union in Gujarat and supplied by Advances India Private Limited. Company representatives confirmed that the expiration dates were erased from the packages and that the distributor typically purchased products nearing expiration at a discounted price.
