Major Punjab Cabinet Decisions: Free Bus Travel for NEET Candidates, Age Limit Relaxation in Lecturer Recruitment

Chandigarh:The Punjab Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, took several important decisions related to students, youth, and flood management. The government announced free bus travel for NEET candidates and eased recruitment procedures.

Free Bus Travel for NEET Candidates and One Attendant

The Cabinet has decided that Punjab Roadways bus fares will be waived for students appearing for the NEET exam on June 20, 21, and 22, along with one accompanying attendant. Approximately 28,000 students in the state will be able to avail of this facility. A parent or other family member will be allowed to travel with them as an attendant.

Recruitment of 156 Junior Engineers in the PWD Department

To promote employment, the government has approved the filling of 156 Junior Engineer posts in the PWD (Civil and Electrical) Department. These will be Group B positions, providing youth with an opportunity to obtain government jobs.

5-Year Age Limit Relaxation in Lecturer Recruitment

The Punjab government has decided to grant a special five-year age relaxation for recruitment to 1,013 lecturer cadre posts. Due to the lack of a long recruitment process, many candidates had exceeded the prescribed age limit. This relaxation will be available to candidates from all categories and recruitment will be done in 12 subjects.

Preparations to Prevent Floods Before the Monsoon

The government has also formulated a strategy to deal with the rain and potential flood situation. The cleaning and desilting of canals and drains will be expedited. To this end, the tender process has been simplified to ensure timely completion and provide relief to the public.
