Major reshuffle in Delhi administration: LG Sandhu transfers 57 officers; orders issued for transfers and new postings

In a major reshuffle of the Delhi government’s administrative structure, Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu issued orders on Wednesday transferring and reassigning 57 senior officials. This extensive reshuffle involves 14 ad-hoc DANICS officers and 43 senior IAS and DANICS officers, directly impacting the functioning of Delhi’s health services, water supply (DJB), and the Revenue Department. The order specifies that all officers must assume their new responsibilities with immediate effect to ensure no delays in public interest work.

The most significant administrative change has occurred at the Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) level. Bipul Pathak (IAS 1992) has been assigned additional charge of the Women and Child Development (WCD) Department and the Department for the Welfare of SC/ST/OBC, alongside his existing role in Social Welfare.

Similarly, Naveen Kumar Chaudhary (IAS 1994) has been entrusted with the crucial responsibility of the General Administration Department (GAD) in addition to the Irrigation and Flood Control (IFC) Department. Jitendra Yadav (IAS 2010) will now serve as Secretary of the IT Department alongside his role at the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC).

New Postings in Health and Water Board
Perhaps the most welcome news for the public is the appointment of new officials to departments like Health and the Water Board. Vaibhav Rikhari (DANICS 2013) and Vinay Kumar Jindal (DANICS 2014)—previously posted as secretaries to ministers—have now been appointed as Directors in the Delhi Jal Board (DJB). In the Health Department, Yash Chaudhary (IAS 2017) has been granted additional financial powers to expedite departmental expenditures and the implementation of new schemes. Additionally, Mekhala Chaitanya Prasad (IAS 2015) has been moved from the post of District Magistrate (DM) of South-West Delhi to serve as Special Secretary in the Health Department.

Major Reshuffle at SDM Level; New Faces Take Charge
A large number of SDMs have been transferred to streamline the Revenue Department and field administration. Yash Pal has been appointed as the SDM of Patel Nagar (moving from Patparganj), while Kuldeep Singh Dhama has been appointed as the SDM of Model Town. Similarly, Nitin Shakya has been moved from Patel Nagar to Patparganj, and Abhishek Guliya has been transferred from Karawal Nagar to become the SDM of Deoli.

Key appointments have also been made in election-related duties and prison administration; Ajit Kumar has been appointed as SDM (Elections) for Central Delhi, and Pawan Kumar has been appointed as Jail Superintendent.

Changes Focused on Women’s Safety and Child Development
New appointments have also been made within the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) and the Department of Women and Child Development. G. Sudhakar (IAS 2012) has been appointed as the Member Secretary of the Delhi Commission for Women, while Patil Pranjal Lahensingh (IAS 2017) has been entrusted with the role of Special Director in the Department of Women and Child Development. This move is seen as a step towards the better implementation of women’s welfare schemes in the city.
