Major Robbery in Gurdaspur: Jeweller’s Family Held Hostage, ₹7 Crore Looted

Gurdaspur: In a broad daylight, A major robbery was reported on Thursday morning in Gurdaspur city, Punjab. Five armed robbers broke into the house of a jeweller located in Improvement Trust Scheme No. 5, held the family hostage, and fled with around ₹35 lakh in cash and gold and silver jewellery.

According to the family, the total loss in the incident is estimated to be around ₹3 crore. As soon as the information was received, the Sadar police station team reached the spot and began an investigation.

According to reports, five armed robbers suddenly entered the house of jeweller Varun Kumar at around 8:15 a.m. on Thursday. As soon as they entered, the accused overpowered all the family members. At gunpoint, they tied the hands and feet of the family members and threatened to shoot them if anyone raised an alarm.

Family held Hostage

Family members said that the robbers were wearing blue clothes and yellow turbans. They demanded the keys to the lockers and cupboards. Out of fear, the family handed over the keys.

The robbers then opened cupboards, trunks, and a safe kept in three rooms of the house and took away the cash and gold and silver jewellery stored inside.

After committing the crime for about one and a half hours, the robbers fled the scene around 9:30 a.m. Before leaving, they also removed the CCTV cameras installed in the house and took them with them to avoid identification.

After the robbers left, one of the family members somehow managed to untie his hands. He then freed the others and immediately informed the police.

Ashwani Sharma Visits Victim’s House

Punjab BJP Working President Ashwani Sharma visited the home of Varun Kumar, a jeweler who was robbed in Gurdaspur, today. He was accompanied by other state and district level BJP officials and workers.

Ashwani Sharma expressed his condolences at Varun’s home. Condemning the Punjab government, he said that law and order in Punjab has completely derailed. He said that gangsters and robbers rule Punjab

Robberies and murders are occurring daily. The Punjab government has completely failed to control these incidents.
