Bomb threats to 2 hospitals in Himachal, patients and staff evacuated

Two hospitals have received bomb threats during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Himachal Pradesh. Emails threatening to blow up Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Medical College and Hospital, Nerchowk and Medical College Chamba in Mandi district have been received. The administration has evacuated the entire campus as a precaution.

This incident has come to light at a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on his visit to Himachal, which has further increased the concerns of security agencies. The OPD of the Medical College in Nerchowk has been closed. Classes in the Medical College have also been suspended for today.

Threat received through email

When the college principal Dr. D.K. Verma reached the institution on Tuesday morning, he received a threatening email in his email inbox. The email clearly stated that the Medical College campus would be blown up. Immediately after this information, he informed the administration and the police about it.

The campus was evacuated immediately

Seeing the seriousness of the threats, the administration took immediate action and evacuated the entire campus of the medical college and hospital. Patients, doctors, nurses and staff were sent to safe places. The patients were brought out of the hospital building on stretchers and wheelchairs and kept in safe places.

After the bomb threat, QRT (Quick Reaction Team) and Bomb Disposal Squad from Mandi immediately reached the spot. Teams from the fire department and local police started searching the entire campus. A thorough check is being done in every room, corridor and open areas. Security arrangements were already tight in the state in view of Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Himachal. Now after this threat, the security agencies have become fully alert. Every movement is being monitored and mail is being checked to see who sent it and from where.
