Fake Facebook Account Sparks Complaint

Manoj Tiwari, who represents a Lok Sabha constituency in Northeast Delhi and is also popular as a Bhojpuri film star, became aware of a suspicious Facebook profile that appeared to impersonate him, sharing posts and information that he says he did not authorize. According to police reports and the MP’s own statement, this account used his name, picture and other identifying information to mislead social media users and potentially create confusion among the public about his official views and communications.

Formal FIR and Police Action

In response, Tiwari approached the Cyber Police Station in New Delhi on January 22, 2026, where he formally filed a written complaint alleging misuse of his identity and social media presence. Delhi Police’s Cyber Cell has taken the matter seriously, registering an FIR against unknown persons under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act and the Indian Penal Code, which cover identity theft and misuse of personal data. Investigators have already begun gathering digital evidence and are probing how and why the fake account was created, who is responsible, and whether the account was used to circulate false or harmful content.

Police Investigation and Next Steps

Officials from the cyber wing of the Delhi Police are working to trace the origin of the fake Facebook account and identify the individuals behind it. Their investigation includes seeking cooperation from Facebook to suspend the fraudulent profile and obtain technical data that could reveal the location and identity of the perpetrators. Delhi Police have also issued advisories warning citizens that using someone’s name, photo or content without permission is a serious offence and that such cases attract stringent legal action.

MP’s Statement on the Incident

Tiwari has publicly described the creation and operation of the fake Facebook ID as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and possibly damage his public image. He emphasized that his official social media accounts carry verification marks (“blue tick”) and urged followers to rely only on those verified pages for authentic updates. The MP has also called on authorities to quickly identify and take strict action against those responsible for the impersonation, underlining the importance of safeguarding digital identities in an era of rising online fraud and cyber misuse.
