Massive Fire Breaks Out at Brahmaputra Apartments in Delhi; No Casualties Reported

Delhi: A major fire erupted on Saturday afternoon at the Brahmaputra Apartments on Dr. Bishambar Das Marg, causing panic in the area.

The multi-storey building, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2020, houses several Rajya Sabha MPs and is located just 200 meters from the Parliament House, making it a highly sensitive and significant location.

Fire and Evacuation

The blaze reportedly started on one of the upper floors of the complex and spread rapidly, forcing residents to evacuate immediately. The adjacent Kaveri Apartments, also official residences for MPs, were affected by the fire.

Upon receiving the first report at 1:22 PM, the Delhi Fire Services deployed six fire engines to the site. Firefighters battled the flames under challenging conditions, while police directed residents to maintain a safe distance and evacuate the area.

Visuals from the scene showed thick, billowing smoke, creating chaos and urgency in the vicinity.

Response and Safety

No casualties or injuries have been reported so far, a relief given the dangerous nature of the incident and the building’s proximity to critical government infrastructure. Local residents expressed concern over the response time of the fire brigade, though the department maintained that teams were dispatched promptly and engaged in sustained efforts to contain the fire.

The exact cause of the fire remains unknown. Authorities are investigating whether it was due to electrical faults, negligence, or other factors. Meanwhile, the focus remains on extinguishing the fire completely, ensuring the safety of residents, and preventing further escalation.

The Brahmaputra and Kaveri Apartments are official residences of MPs, and their proximity to the Parliament House makes the incident especially sensitive. Emergency teams are continuing their work to secure the area, assess damage, and prevent similar incidents in the future.
