Paraguay Senator Celeste Amarilla Demands Apology from Kylian Mbappe After Racism Row

Asunción, Paraguay: Paraguayan Senator Celeste Amarilla has demanded an apology from France football captain Kylian Mbappe after a heated controversy erupted over her comments about the star player, with both sides accusing each other of crossing the line.

The dispute began after Amarilla made remarks about Mbappe that were criticised by many as offensive and linked to his background. Following the comments, Mbappe responded by calling her a “despicable woman” and questioning whether she was fit to hold public office.

    Amarilla Defends Her Comments

In a lengthy statement shared on social media, Amarilla said her criticism was aimed at Mbappe personally and was not directed against France.

She highlighted her connection with French culture, stating that she studied at a French institution and has a long association with the country.

The senator accused Mbappe of displaying arrogance during and after a FIFA World Cup match involving Paraguay. She alleged that his behaviour towards Paraguayan players and goalkeeper showed a lack of respect.

Senator Says She Regretted Earlier Remarks

Amarilla acknowledged that she deleted her earlier post after reconsidering the language used.

She said she regretted responding with similar insults to those she had faced herself, but maintained that Mbappe’s reaction against her was also unacceptable.

    Demand for Apology, Legal Warning

The Paraguayan senator demanded that Mbappe withdraw his comments and apologise, saying that she was an elected representative chosen by the people.

She accused the footballer of political and gender-based criticism and warned that she could take legal action if her demand was not addressed.

    Controversy Sparks Debate

The exchange between the football star and the Paraguayan senator has triggered discussions over racism, public criticism, and accountability for comments made by public figures.

Neither side has indicated any resolution to the dispute so far.
