Two MBBS students drown in Tigra Dam; bodies recovered after 18 hours: MP Police

Gwalior: Two second-year MBBS students of Gajra Raja Medical College (GRMC) drowned in Tigra Dam in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior district after entering deep water during a picnic outing, police said on Sunday.

According to officials, a group of around eight medical students had gone to the dam on Saturday for an outing. During the visit, two students entered the water in a deep section of the reservoir, where they reportedly lost control and drowned.

Local villagers and fellow students raised an alarm soon after the incident, following which police and State Disaster Emergency Response Force (SDRF) teams were deployed for search and rescue operations.

Rescue teams carried out intensive operations throughout the night. One body was recovered late on Saturday, while the search for the second student continued for several hours.

After nearly 18 hours of continuous efforts, the second body was also recovered on Sunday, officials said.

The deceased have been identified as MBBS students of GRMC, Gwalior. Their families have been informed and have reached the city.

Police said a case has been registered and an investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances that led to the drowning incident, including safety conditions at the site and the sequence of events during the outing.

Tigra Dam, located around 23 km from Gwalior, is a popular local picnic spot and a key water reservoir for the city.
