Meeting for Security of Amarnath Yatra

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday chaired a crucial review meeting regarding the security of the Shri Amarnath Yatra. Administrative officials, along with top military officials, attended the meeting. The meeting discussed how to ensure a smooth and safe conduct of the pilgrimage to Baba Barfani, which begins in late July and concludes on August 9. This is the second Amarnath Yatra since last year’s Amarnath Yatra, following the Pahalgam massacre. Therefore, discussions were held to ensure a completely safe and peaceful environment for the pilgrims participating in the Yatra. A clear difference between the security arrangements currently in place and those to be provided in the future is that this time, security will be strengthened digitally. The government is aware of the possibility of terrorists attempting to disrupt the Yatra or carry out untoward incidents. Taking this into account, the government is taking robust security measures. The first step is that this year’s pilgrimage will be conducted under complete digital security. Each pilgrim will be given a digital identification code, allowing them to track their current location and ensure they are not exposing themselves to any potential danger. By linking each pilgrim’s identity to digital machinery, administrators believe they will have greater control over the crowds. Another threat identified is the potential for drone attacks on the Amarnath Yatra from across the border. Therefore, the Yatra will be provided with a secure drone shield. Surveillance drones will be constantly on standby to prevent any external drone intrusion. The third decision concerns crowd control. Efforts are underway to restrict groups of pilgrims to base camps and allow them to proceed only after the previous pilgrims have completed their journey and reduced the crowd. To this end, two base camps have been established in Jammu and Srinagar. Pilgrims will be allowed to proceed based on the crowd size, so that an excess of pilgrims does not reach the starting point. Jammu and Kashmir Police and CAPF officers will personally monitor security arrangements at the camps. Overall, modern technology is being used extensively to ensure the safety of the Yatra.
