Mehbooba Mufti demands creation of new districts, protection of land rights

Ramban: Mehbooba Mufti has strongly advocated for administrative reforms, the creation of new districts, and the protection of land rights for vulnerable groups.

Demand for new districts intensifies in many areas

Speaking to the media in Banihal while en route from Jammu to Srinagar, she said that during the party’s recent outreach campaign, people have demanded closer ties with the administration and the creation of new districts.

She stated that there is a growing demand for district formation in areas such as Banihal, Bhaderwah, Chenani, Bani, Basohli, Billawar, Nowshera, Kotranka, Uri, Sopore, Gul-Gulabgarh, and Handwara.

Lack of basic amenities in remote areas

Mehbooba said that people in remote areas like Chenab Valley and Pir Panjal are still deprived of administrative facilities and face basic problems, especially road connectivity.

She described the Marwah-Warwan region as one of the most neglected areas and expressed the need for immediate government attention.

Concerns about land after Article 370

She said that after the abrogation of Article 370, people have become increasingly insecure about land, especially among the poor and tribal communities.

A bill has also been introduced in the Assembly on this issue, aimed at protecting the rights of these communities.

Allegations of displacement of poor and tribal families

Mehbooba Mufti alleged that tribal communities are being evicted from forest land and that action is also being taken against poor families building small houses.

She expressed hope that the government will take these issues seriously and take concrete steps to ensure equitable development in all areas.
