Mexico City: At least 10 people, including a child, were killed after gunmen stormed a residence in Tehuitzingo town in Mexico’s Puebla state, during the early hours of Sunday, authorities said.
According to Puebla’s public security agency, the victims included six men, three women and one minor. Officials said the victims were allegedly attacked by armed assailants inside a house in the municipality.
Gunmen Open Fire Inside Residence
Authorities said local police reached the scene after receiving emergency calls reporting gunfire in the area.
Investigators found multiple victims with gunshot wounds inside the residence. One injured woman reportedly died while being shifted for medical treatment.
Local media reports stated that the attack occurred in the Texcalapa community of Tehuitzingo, a town located around 208 kilometres south of Mexico City. Some reports suggested several victims belonged to the same family.
Massive Security Operation Launched
State and federal authorities, including the National Guard, local police and prosecutors, launched a joint investigation into the massacre.
Puebla’s public security agency said intelligence and coordination efforts were underway to identify those responsible and determine the motive behind the killings. No arrests had been announced at the time of reporting.
The Puebla Attorney General’s Office confirmed that a formal investigation had been opened into the incident.
Violence Continues to Rise in Central Mexico
The attack is the latest in a series of violent incidents reported from Puebla state this year.
Earlier incidents in the region included shootings in Huehuetlán El Grande and Puebla City that left multiple people dead. Authorities continue to battle rising organized crime and cartel-linked violence across central Mexico.
