MHA Grants Z Category Security to Raghav Chadha in Delhi & Punjab, Y Security Across India

New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has granted Z-category security to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha, based on a threat perception report prepared by the Intelligence Bureau (IB), sources said.

The enhanced security cover will be provided by central paramilitary forces, primarily the CRPF, and will be operational in Delhi and Punjab, where Chadha is considered to face a higher threat level.

    Security Arrangement Across Regions

According to sources, the arrangement will vary across regions:

    • Delhi & Punjab: Z-category security with central forces
    • Rest of India: A lower category, likely Y-plus security, is being planned

The immediate security in Delhi is currently being handled by the Delhi Police until the full central deployment is completed.

    Background: Punjab Withdrew Earlier Cover

The Centre’s decision comes shortly after the Punjab government withdrew Chadha’s Z-plus security cover, which had been provided by the state police.

The withdrawal followed internal tensions within the AAP, including Chadha’s removal as the party’s deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha, signalling a growing rift within the party.

The swift move by the Centre to step in and provide security has drawn attention in political circles. Sources indicate that the decision was taken after a fresh threat assessment by central agencies, ensuring that Chadha continues to receive adequate protection despite the withdrawal of state cover.

The development comes amid ongoing political friction within the AAP and heightened scrutiny over security arrangements for public representatives.
