Mika Singh pledges to donate 10 acres of land for stray dogs amid ongoing Supreme Court case on canine management

Mumbai: Bollywood singer Mika Singh has taken a step towards animal welfare by pledging to donate 10 acres of land he owns for stray dogs. This announcement comes amid the ongoing case regarding stray dog management in the Supreme Court.

Request to Supreme Court: Adopt a compassionate attitude towards dogs

In his message on X (formerly Twitter), Mika Singh appealed to the Supreme Court not to take any action that would harm the welfare of stray dogs.

“Mika Singh humbly requests the Honorable Supreme Court of India to please refrain from taking any action that could adversely affect the welfare of dogs,” he wrote.

Promise to provide dedicated space for dogs

Mika Singh, who has always been vocal about animal rights, said that he will use his land to build a shelter and care center for stray dogs.

“I humbly submit that I have sufficient land available and am fully willing to donate it solely for the care, shelter, and well-being of dogs,” he wrote in his post.

He also explained that simply donating land will not suffice; the right staff and resources are also required to ensure the dogs’ health and safety.

Supreme Court Provides Clarity on Stray Dog Management

The ongoing hearing in the Supreme Court on stray dog management has drawn national attention. Recently, a three-judge special bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath, Sandeep Mehta, and N.V. Anjaria clarified that there is no order requiring the removal of all stray dogs.

The bench emphasized that the focus should be on implementing the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Rules, 2023, which recommend a scientific and humane approach to stray dog management.

Balancing public safety and animal well-being

The court recognized the increase in dog bite incidents, but stated that prohibition, vaccination, and repatriation of dogs is the most appropriate approach. This strategy aims to ensure both human safety and animal well-being.

The bench also noted that local authorities have failed to effectively enforce the ABC Rules, requiring a concrete and compassionate strategy.

    Mika Singh’s Initiative and Vision

Mika Singh’s initiative will not only provide land for shelters and care centers, but it also highlights the importance of a compassionate and structured approach to the welfare of stray dogs.

His initiative can serve as an example of celebrity-led social contribution, combined with legal and administrative efforts, to help urban animal welfare.
