Former Punjab Chief Minister and Jalandhar MP Charanjit Singh Channi shared a shocking video on social media exposing the mafia of fake milk and dairy products thriving in the country. Channi claimed that nearly 70% of milk and 80% of paneer available in the market is counterfeit, being made with urea, detergent, and harmful chemicals.

Fake milk made by mixing urea and water 

He himself demonstrated making fake milk by mixing urea and water in a mixer, which, even after boiling, appears just like real milk. Channi described this as ‘intentional murder’ and demanded strict laws and mandatory on-site milk testing. In his video, Channi mentioned that he has been studying the decline of the dairy sector through visits to villages for a long time. He found that livestock owners are not getting the right price for milk, which is causing people to stop keeping animals.

According to MP Channi, this fake milk is so dangerous that detergent (washing surf) is even added to it to make the foam and fat appear real. He warned that when mothers feed this milk to their children thinking they are making them strong, in reality, they are serving them serious diseases.

Waste in the dairy sector
In the video, Channi stated that the situation today is such that if you ask a dairy for 10 quintals of milk even in the afternoon, they provide it immediately, even though this is not the time for extracting milk from cows and buffaloes. This extra milk is being fully prepared in the lab. Due to the abundance of this fake milk, farmers producing real milk are not getting the right price, causing the rural economy to go into crisis.

Adulteration Increased Due to Low Fines on Accused

Questioning the existing laws, he said that currently, if caught, there is only a minor fine of ₹12,000, which the mafia easily pays and then resumes the same activities. Channi has demanded that there should be a provision for strict punishment for this crime.

As the chairman of the Animal Husbandry Committee, Channi stated that they are preparing a report that will break the backbone of this mafia. He suggested that every milk booth and dairy should have a testing machine through which consumers can themselves check for urea or detergent in milk at a cost of just ₹1. His argument is that if the supply of adulterated milk stops, the demand for genuine milk will increase.
