Minimum temperature in Punjab drops below normal; Faridkot remains coldest

A cold wave is sweeping through Punjab and Chandigarh. Temperatures are dropping due to cold winds blowing from the mountains. People are experiencing more discomfort during the morning and evening hours. The state’s average minimum temperature has dropped by 0.6 degrees Celsius over the past 24 hours, 2.4 degrees below normal.

Faridkot was the coldest place in the state, recording a temperature of 2.6 degrees Celsius. The state is even colder than neighboring Haryana. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow cold wave alert for today. Chandigarh recorded a minimum temperature of 5.4 degrees Celsius, marking the second coldest night of the season.

Weather to Change Tomorrow

A cold wave will prevail in some parts of the state today in the districts of Ferozepur, Faridkot, Muktsar, Fazilka, Moga, Jalandhar, and Mansa, bordering Rajasthan. According to the Meteorological Department, there are signs of a change in the weather. A high-altitude cyclonic circulation over northern Pakistan and Punjab remains active.

Meanwhile, another trough has shifted upward. A new mild western disturbance will arrive from December 5th. This could lead to increased cloud cover and cold winds in the mountains. Temperatures are also expected to drop slightly in the plains.

Daytime temperatures are now falling
Daytime temperatures in Punjab have also dropped. The average maximum temperature has dropped by 0.2 degrees Celsius, which was 2.2 degrees below normal. Chandigarh recorded a temperature of 23.5 degrees Celsius, a drop of 0.7 degrees Celsius in 24 hours. Similarly, Amritsar recorded a temperature of 20.2 degrees Celsius.

The temperature here has dropped by 0.9 degrees Celsius. The temperature was recorded at 22.4 degrees in Ludhiana, 22.6 degrees in Patiala, 22.0 degrees in Faridkot, 22.5 degrees in Gurdaspur, 23.9 degrees in Bathinda, 21.6 degrees in Ferozepur, 22.5 degrees in Ropar and 23.0 degrees in Mohali.
