Second Missing Indian Army Soldier Recovered in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district

Srinagar: The body of the second Indian Army soldier, who went missing during an anti-terrorist operation amid adverse weather conditions, was recovered on Friday from the Gadole forest area in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Of the two missing para-commandos, the body of the first soldier was recovered on Thursday. Both soldiers had gone missing five days ago due to severe snowstorm and whiteout conditions in the Gadole forests.

Army Statement on the Incident

The Army’s Srinagar-headquartered Chinar Corps shared on X: “On the intervening night of 6/7 Oct, an operational team on Kishtwar range confronted a severe snow storm and whiteout conditions in the mountains of South Kashmir. Since then, two soldiers have gone out of communication. Intense Search and Rescue operations have been launched but hampered due to prevailing adverse weather conditions.”

Officials said relentless search efforts by security forces led to the recovery of the second soldier on Friday morning.

Anti-Terror Operations in J&K

Joint forces, including the Army, security agencies, and J&K Police, continue to conduct aggressive operations targeting terrorists, their Over Ground Workers (OGWs), and sympathisers, aiming to dismantle the entire terror ecosystem in the Union Territory rather than focusing solely on armed militants.

Drug smugglers, peddlers, and hawala money operators are also under scrutiny, as funds generated from these activities are believed to sustain terrorism in J&K.

Security Overview

Security forces and J&K Police carry out anti-terrorist operations in the hinterland, while the Army and Border Security Force (BSF) guard the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB), respectively.

J&K has a 740-km LoC running through Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora, and parts of Jammu, and a 240-km IB in Jammu, Samba, and Kathua districts.
