Jalandhar: Jalandhar MP and former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi has launched a campaign called ‘Mission Chitta Sona’ (Mission White Gold) against alleged illegal sand mining in Punjab. On Thursday night, Channi travelled in a tipper truck to a riverbank site where he claimed sand was being extracted and transported without the required government royalty.
Channi shared a video of the visit on his X account. In the footage, he is seen travelling with members of his team and the media, saying he would not reveal the destination in advance because those involved could be alerted.

At the site, Channi alleged that large quantities of sand were being removed every day despite there being no authorised mining site in the immediate area. He accused the Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, and Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal of allowing the state’s natural resources to be plundered.
These claims were made by Channi and have not been independently established in the material provided.
Channi Travels in Tipper Truck to Reach Mining Site
Explaining why he chose a tipper truck instead of a car, Channi said he wanted those involved in the alleged operation to believe that a customer had arrived to buy sand. He said the approach was intended to avoid raising suspicion and help expose the activity.
In the video, Channi points towards the site and alleges that hundreds of truckloads of sand are being taken out daily. He also claimed that the sand was not only being supplied within Punjab but was transported in large quantities to other states.
Claims of Revenue Loss to Punjab Government
Channi alleged that the sand was being loaded onto vehicles and transported without payment of government royalty, resulting in losses worth crores of rupees to the state exchequer every day.
He said his campaign aims to bring the alleged mining network and any official or other links that may be enabling it to public attention. Channi also indicated that his team had conducted a sting operation during the visit.
“If God wills it, the entire network will be exposed,” he said in the video.
‘Mission Chitta Sona’ Aims to Expose Illegal Mining
Through ‘Mission Chitta Sona’, Channi has sought to draw attention to alleged illegal extraction of Punjab’s sand resources and the possible loss of government revenue.
His allegations against the AAP leadership and the people he claims are involved in the activity would require independent investigation and verification. Further details about any formal complaint, official action or response from the state government were not included in the information provided.
