Punjab Launches ‘Mission Clean Punjab’ to Make Cities Cleaner and Garbage-Free

The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has launched ‘Mission Clean Punjab’ to improve cleanliness and waste management across urban areas of the state.

The special campaign, being conducted from August 29 to September 7, has brought ministers, MLAs, mayors, councilors and administrative officials directly to the ground to monitor sanitation activities.

According to the Punjab government, the campaign is not merely aimed at a short-term cleanliness drive. Its broader objective is to establish sustainable systems for regular sanitation, waste collection and garbage management in cities and towns.

    Special Focus on Garbage Hotspots

Launched with the message ‘Clean Punjab, Proud Punjab’, the campaign is identifying locations where garbage repeatedly accumulates.

These garbage hotspots are being cleaned through dedicated teams. Authorities are also focusing on regular monitoring and local-level action to prevent waste from accumulating again after the cleanup.

Harjot Singh Bains Leads Campaign in Nangal

Local Bodies Minister Harjot Singh Bains led the campaign in Nangal in Sri Anandpur Sahib, where he participated in sanitation activities and interacted with sanitation workers and local residents.

Bains said maintaining cleanliness in cities cannot be the responsibility of sanitation workers alone. Shopkeepers, citizens and local communities also have an important role to play in keeping their surroundings clean.

He emphasised that the campaign should not remain limited to a one-time cleanup. The government is working towards establishing regular monitoring mechanisms and action plans for locations where garbage repeatedly accumulates.

    Sanitation Workers Honoured in Kotkapura

Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan launched the campaign in Kotkapura, where he honoured sanitation workers for their contribution to maintaining the city’s cleanliness and also participated in sanitation activities with them.

He said secondary waste collection centres and garbage dumping points in Kotkapura and other areas of Faridkot would be cleaned as part of the campaign.

According to Sandhwan, lists of sanitation workers and their supervisors deployed across different wards have been prepared. The government plans to make these details available on an official portal to improve transparency and accountability in the sanitation system.

Ministers and MLAs Take Part Across Punjab

Under ‘Mission Clean Punjab’, elected representatives have taken the lead in sanitation drives across several cities and towns.

Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh participated in cleanliness activities at Thapar Chowk in Patiala. Highlighting the connection between sanitation and public health, he said accumulated garbage in open spaces can contribute to various health problems.

In Jalandhar, Cabinet Minister Mohinder Bhagat participated in the campaign near Nakodar Chowk. Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO led the campaign in Jandiala Guru along with the Municipal Council president, councillors and sanitation workers.

Cleanliness Drive Intensified in Khanna and Zirakpur

Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Saund launched the campaign from the Khanna Municipal Council office.

In Baltana, Zirakpur, MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa initiated the cleanliness drive along with municipal councillors, ward in-charges and officials. Residents were also urged to cooperate in keeping Zirakpur clean and free from garbage.

Elected Representatives Lead Drives from Amritsar to Sangrur

In Amritsar, MLA Dr Ajay Gupta and Mayor Jatinder Pal Singh Moti Bhatiya led the cleanliness campaign.

In Fatehgarh Sahib, MLA Advocate Lakhbir Singh Rai participated in the campaign organised by the Sirhind Municipal Council.

In Sangrur, MLA Narinder Kaur Bharaj participated in sanitation activities from Khanda Chowk through Haripura to Puniya Tower. She also took part in the campaign at Toor Patti Park in Bhawanigarh.

Cleanliness Campaigns Held in Moga, Phagwara and Ajnala

Garbage piles accumulated at various locations were removed during the campaign.

Citizens Can Report Garbage Through M-Sewa App

The Punjab government has also appealed to citizens to participate in the campaign through the M-Sewa app.

Residents can upload photographs of garbage and unclean areas in their neighbourhoods through the app and bring them to the attention of the administration.

The initiative is expected to help authorities identify problem areas more efficiently and take necessary action to improve cleanliness and waste management.

    Focus on Long-Term Waste Management

Through ‘Mission Clean Punjab’, the government is seeking to move beyond periodic cleanliness drives and strengthen systems for regular waste collection, monitoring, hotspot management and citizen participation. The campaign places emphasis on coordination between elected representatives, municipal bodies, sanitation workers, officials and local communities to create cleaner and better-managed urban areas across Punjab.
